Modkat XL Litter Box

My new cat Pippa loves it and is using it more and more every day.

I have a boy cat who pees high at his stage of life, managing to Houdini his pee out of the sides of the litter box, and I have been searching for a solution. Tried - let me think - four or five different variations of the lidded box, two top entry boxes, all accepted by my girl cat after a week or so of getting used to the foreign object sitting there next to the hated stinky old box. But my boy never would switch.

I thought the XL Modkat box was expensive but with two bonded sibling cats, I had to go XL because they share a main box and an occasional alternate. And really, do I want to contain this problem for less than $200? Yes, I do. I had already spent far more than that in vet visits and other boxes and other litters.

When it arrived, I unpacked their new XL Modkat box, put it together (easy), fitted the liner (easy), added in the magic mix of litters that is their favorite, and set it next to the hated stinky old box and the top entry alternate. I expected them, following their pattern, to ignore the new box for a week or so, and off I went to run an errand.

When I got home, imagine my surprise to find that both cats had used the new box! I mean, what made it okay to use this one immediately? I have no idea, cat logic obviously escapes me. But we do love the box so far - it is easy to clean, the liners are not scratchable or tearable, it has more aesthetic appeal than most boxes, and I can’t see how my box could possibly get his pee out of this box or behind the liner. (Knocking on wood.) I can see how high his pee goes on the liner, run some fresh litter up the wall with the edge of the scoop, take out the clumps, and voilà! Clean again.

I have ordered backup liners, thrown away the hated stinky old box, and we aren’t looking back. I wish I had known about ModKat long ago, it would have saved me so much time and frustration. This is an unsolicited review, and uncompensated in any way, it’s just my relief gushing out in words for you, fellow cat owners. If you are sitting on the fence, and you have a high peeing cat that is physically healthy (meaning, do take them to the vet first, if box habits have changed), hey, you might as well give it a shot. It worked for us.

The cat litter box is huge! Although I found it a bit flimsy and NO PRINTED INSTRUCTIONS!!!! I would’ve given it 5 Stars but I had to go online to find instructions on how to put it together!!!!!! So please for your next one make it sturdier plastic and INCLUDE WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS!!!
