Our journey to the best cat litter box.
Rich Williams' cats, Mika and Sashi, needed a litter box that not only worked great and reduced litter tracking but also matched the modern aesthetics of his Brooklyn apartment. Despite an exhaustive search, Rich couldn’t find a suitable option. Frustrated, he voiced his concerns to his wife, who cleverly suggested, “You're a designer. Why don't you just design one?”
Inspired, Rich approached Brett Teper, his then business partner in graphic design and an industrial design graduate, with the idea. Brett immediately saw its potential. Two years and countless prototypes later, the Modkat Top-Entry Litter Box debuted at the 2009 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), earning the Editor's Choice Award for Best Home Accessory. This marked the beginning of Modkat's journey, setting a new standard in litter box design.
Fast-forward 15 years, and Modkat has transformed cat care with its innovative and award-winning litter boxes. The original Modkat top-entry litter box, Flip front-entry litter box, versatile Modkat XL, and Modkat Tray have made life better for cat owners all over the world. Our focus on cat health and high-quality, stylish products has earned us a loyal customer base and numerous awards, and we're just getting started!
